e:Med PG Data Security and Ethics

The project group „data security and ethics” focuses on the homonymous cross section topics within e:Med, e.g. data security, data access and basic legal principles as well as ethical aspects. Issues, which are essential while for example sharing and publishing big human (Gen)Omics data, relating also to patient’s consent, information and withdrawl.
The project group is led by Dr. Schickhardt (NCT Heidelberg, ELSA, Daysymed) and Professor Dr. Sax (University of Göttingen, SysINFLAME), who are supportively advised by Professor Dr. Rietschel (ZI Mannheim, IntegraMent).

Datensicherheit-Ethik

The initial meeting of the project group “data security and ethics” took place at the 25th of November 2014. It soon became obvious, that questions arising in this e:Med project group overlap with the activities of the “Technologie- und Methodenplattform für die vernetzte medizinische Forschung (TMF) e.V. (https://www.tmf-ev.de/)”. Therefore, a co-operation between the project group and the TMF was established.

At the second meeting of the project group at the 18th of May 2015, e:Med’s specific systems medicine questions were concretized and followed by the first joined meeting with the TMF groups data security and molecular medicine (ITQM and MolMed) in September 2015; an additional meeting took place at the annual e:Med meeting 2015. Therewith, the project group data security and ethics is positioned highly professional and well established within e:Med.

One result of this fact was the two-day workshop entitled „Best Practice – Sharing and Publishing of Human (Gen)Omics Data”, which was conjointly organized by the e:Med project group data security and ethics and the TMF groups ITQM and MolMed in June 2016 in Berlin. Talks and results of the workshop are now available to e:Med members in the log-in section.
