Molecular characterization of AF candidate genes and pathways and translation
Atrial fibrillation is the most common arrhythmia with a high mortality. The deciphering of the genetic and molecular basis can serve as a basis for a more accurate risk stratification of atrial fibrillation patients and is therefore of great clinical importance. To fill the gap between genetics and the development of atrial fibrillation, the underlying molecular mechanisms of atrial fibrillation are investigated in this sub project. We will generate multiple omics data sets and will characterize candidate genes by molecular experimental approaches and animal models. Depending on these results further molecular and physiological experiments will be carried out (for example, identification of protein interactions, electrophysiological examinations, ion channel activation).
In close collaboration with the partners from our symAtrial consortium, candidate genes are identified by systems biology and - network analysis. The main objective of the project is to investigate the functionality of candidate genes.
